DIY Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! While many of us tend to go overboard with expensive gifts and romantic dinners (not that there’s anything wrong with that!) sometimes money can be tight, especially when you have kids to consider. Although lavish gifts can always be appreciated, it’s important to remember that Valentine’s Day is about showing your significant other (and children) how much they are loved! With that said, we have prepared a list of our top 5 economical, but creative DIY projects to give your valentine(s) this year. Best of all, these crafty projects are fun and simple, so you might just choose to do all of them!
1. Scratch and Win Valentine’s Card
In addition to being unique and homemade, it’s the perfect way to tell your valentine exactly what you love about them. Practically free, and super easy for you and the kids to do, the Scratch and Win Valentine’s Card is a much more meaningful card than one bought at the store. With the ability to customize the message behind each heart, say as much or as little as you want! The picture shown in the example was made on the computer but you can easily do the same with a permanent or paint marker. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Paper and permanent or paint markers
- 1 tsp dish soap
- 1 tsp acrylic paint
- White crayon

2. Sticky-Note Messages
This is one of our favorite low cost ideas and a perfect way to show you care without breaking the bank! Cute and a little flirty, these messages will surely make your valentine smile! Whether it’s a sticky-note on the rear-view mirror, a message in the fruit bowl or passage on the shower door, your valentine will really appreciate the effort. For a lasting impression, leave a note in their lunch bag for them to enjoy throughout the day, at work or school! Via House of Hendrix
3. A Year of Date Nights in a Jar
Now that you’ve finally set aside an evening for a date night with your spouse, you have to figure out what the heck you’re going to do with it! If you’re anything like me, you’re probably exhausted from work and the regular routine, and you’d rather stick to the usual, go-to date activities that don’t require brainstorming new ideas. However, that can get stale pretty fast and that’s why we love this idea of giving your spouse a Year of Date Nights in a Jar. Helping you get outside your comfort zone, these amazing and printable date ideas will never leave you bored. Print off the entire list, or pick and choose the ones that are right for you, and create your own! Now, every time date night rolls around, you’ll be excited to pull an idea out of the jar and do something new and interesting! Check out the full instructions here.
4. Valentine’s Breakfast
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that’s especially true on Valentine’s Day. Show your valentine how much you love them by adding a romantic twist to the regular breakfast dishes. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make this toast and egg dish or design mini heart-shaped pancakes! Don’t have a pancake recipe? Here is an easy one from Martha Stewart. Your valentine will love this gesture of romance first thing in the morning. If you don’t have time for a big, morning breakfast, you can make heart-shaped sandwiches for lunch! 5. Valentine’s Coupons for Kids
The Valentine Coupon may not be the most innovative idea, but have you ever seen one that was geared towards kids? Your kids will be thrilled to receive these rewards, which can be cashed in whenever they want (or when they’ve been good!) There is even a blank option for you to personalize, or let your little one fill it in with something they really want. Download your own printable versions for free here.
