Here are a few key points I’d like to highlight and update about the current situation:
-This was a voluntary recall of Stork Craft drop-side cribs with plastic hardware in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada
-This recall includes all Stork Craft cribs with plastic hardware made between January 1993 and October 2009. This recall includes all Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo with plastic hardware made between October 1997 and December 2004.
-Repair kits are being sent-out to customers in priority sequence. You can order your repair kit on Stork Craft’s website, by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by telephone (Toll Free – 1-877-274-0277).
-These repair kits have been tested and approved by Stork Craft, the CPSC and Health Canada
-The website, which was initially slowed by the overload of traffic on Tuesday, is working much better now and is the best way to order your replacement kit
We thank you for your patience and are working hard to process your replacement kit orders as quickly as we can.
A Message from Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc.
Thank You to Our Loyal and Dedicated Customers!
Dear Stork Craft Customers:
During this voluntary recall, we are very thankful to have committed caring customers! We value your support and appreciate the confidence you have shown in our company. We are pleased that you have chosen Stork Craft quality products for your family. We understand that you have many options when purchasing a crib. For this reason, we are grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in our products.
We would like to recognize some of our loyal and dedicated customers for their positive comments on Stork Craft’s blog:
“We love our storkcraft crib and have had no problems with it! 4 moves, 3 kids and the crib is still in great working shape. We are glad to be getting the repair kit to continue its use. email@example.com worked perfectly fine for us. Thanks for the hard work to correct the issue.”
“I have always purchased Storkcraft cribs; my first one I bought was in 1982. Never have I experienced any problems with any of my cribs. I heard about the same recall issue a few years ago, but it was another crib company, not Storkcraft. Should we not be concerned about all drop-side cribs from all companies? Too bad you have had to endure the bad rap on behalf of all crib companies. Good luck Storkcraft!!”
“I just wanted you to know we have used your dropside crib for both of our daughters and we couldn’t be happier with your product. It sounds as though the unfortunate incidents were precipitated by people using your product incorrectly.
What a shame. Our drop side crib has been a Godsend. It made it so much easier to put our daughters to bed.
I hope this works itself out and you can continue to make fine furniture for babies every where.”
“Just wanted to stop by and say I LOVE my crib, and …I don’t feel this is an issue. You guys make exceptional products, and it is a shame that your good name has been sullied by this. I feel that if the instructions (which are very clear and concise) are followed carefully, there is minimal risk. Keep up the good work, and I hope that you will rethink the decision to stop production on drop-side cribs, as they are a real help to those of us with back problems or in wheelchairs.”
“What people do not seem to understand is that every company has had a recall. Just because they happened on drop-side cribs does not mean that they happened (only) on Stork Craft cribs! The media is reporting false information. STORK CRAFT IS THE BEST MOST TRUSTWORTHY COMPANY. I love Stork Craft and will continue to use it and recommend it to everyone!”
“I have nothing but positive things to say about Storkcraft. As far as I am concerned, their products are exceptional. I am a mother of twin boys, and own 2 drop-side Storkcraft cribs. My boys (13 months old) are quite active and rambunctious in their cribs. We have had no issues whatsoever. I have requested the kit, and will be putting it on both cribs as a precautionary measure. I am not at all concerned, and will continue to support Storkcraft.”

Dear Stork Craft customers,
This recall involves Stork Craft drop-side cribs and Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo. This recall does not involve any cribs that do not have a drop-side. This recall does not involve any cribs with metal rod drop-side hardware. It involves only those cribs with plastic trigger and one-hand-system drop-side hardware.
This recall includes Stork Craft cribs with manufacturing and distribution dates between January 1993 and October 2009. This recall also includes Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo that have manufacturing dates between October 1997 and December 2004
We’re currently working through the initial surge of inquiries and requests at the moment. It is very busy here and we are doing our best to meet the demand. Requests for conversion repair clips require the following information:
-model number of your crib
-the date of manufacture
-the country of manufacture
-complete shipping information
All of these can be found on the bottom right corner of the mattress baseboard (under the mattress).
We are experiencing heavy traffic on our website. If you find that you are having difficulties getting through to Stork Craft’s website, please send this information to: firstname.lastname@example.org or call Stork Craft toll free at 1-877-274-0277.
This recall is in place because the crib’s drop-side plastic hardware can break, deform, or parts can become missing causing the drop-side to detach. A crib with any of the four corners detached can lead to a safety issue.
The cribs involved in the serious incidents that the CPSC and Health Canada have documented had plastic drop-side hardware that had broken, missing, or deformed claws, connectors, tracks, of flexible tabs stops; loose or missing metal spring clips; stripped screws; and/or drop-sides installed upside-down. The conversion clips will essentially render the drop-side immovable.
Once we have the required information, I can get your order processed for you. I thank you for your patience and we will be doing our very best to get you your repair kit.

Canwood Furniture, currently available on walmart.com, has been a huge success since Stork Craft purchased and relaunched this furniture line. I thought that with the increasing interest for Canwood products that I could answer some of your frequently asked questions:
1) When will Canwood be available in Canada?
Canwood will be available in BC by the end of November and it can be found at McKenzie’s Countrywide, Totem Furniture, Northern Furniture and TJ’s the Kiddies store. As for the rest of the country, it should be available by January 2010. Stay tuned to this blog for more details on which retailers will carry Canwood in Canada when the information becomes available.
2) What type of wood is Canwood made with?
Canwood Furniture is made of pine.
3) What is the weight limit for a Canwood Loft Bed or Bunk Bed?
The maximum weight for a Canwood Loft Bed or Bunk Bed is 165 lbs.
4) How high is the Whistler Junior Loft Bed from the floor to the bottom of the bed?
28-7/8″ from the floor to the underside of the bed rail.
5) Do I need a boxspring for my Canwood bed?
A box spring is not required, though one can be used in the Twin Bed configuration. A box spring cannot be used in the upper bed of a bunk or a loft bed configuration as it would raise the mattress up above the guard rails.

I have to admit that this is my first ever experience blogging. When I was hired by Stork Craft back in May, creating a Stork Craft Blog and signing us up for Facebook and Twitter accounts were only a small part of my job description. Things started slow….really slooooooooooooooooooow. If I remember correctly, Stork Craft only had 4 followers of this blog in the first month of its existence (one of them being myself).
Being new to the ‘Social Media World’ I was discouraged with the lack of instant results. Why weren’t more people reading our blog? I kept telling myself that I had to be patient and that eventually the readers will come. Being one of the the world’s largest baby furniture manufacturers in the world, I knew we had the customer base. But did the customers know that Stork Craft was finally online and ready to connect with them?
Through contests and other Mommy Blogs being extremely helpful with tips and referrals (Dee at Twoofakind, Jolly Mom, Barefoot Mommies and J Leigh Designz) we have finally achieved a strong reader base for this blog, on Facebook and Twitter. While we certainly have a ways to go before I will be fully satisfied with the Social Media Department here at Stork Craft, I can safely say that there is nothing that I enjoy more at work than interacting and connecting with customers and fans of Stork Craft online. Whether it be a simple email asking me questions about new products, or comments on our blog, or tweets on Twitter, or thumbs up on Facebook, the feeling that I get from responding to customers is one of satisfaction and gratitude.
Thank you Mommy Bloggers, fans and customers of Stork Craft who continue to read this blog and show interest in our company. Your support is what motivates me to make this blog what it is today. Feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any questions or comments about our products. Blog post suggestions are always welcome too
